A
ANALOG TELEPHONY
The traditional POTS lines that convert audio signals into electronic pulses to deliver from one point to another.
D
DTMF
DTMF is the abbreviation for dual-tone multi-frequency signaling. Essentially, dialing a phone number is DTMF. The different tones tell the data where it needs to go.

FCC
Federal Communications Commission is the government authority that regulates interstate and international communications, whether they are by radio, tv, wire, satellite, and cable.

HOSTED PBX
A Hosted PBX is a PBX that is in the cloud and connected over IP.

LTE
or long Term Evolution, is a standard wireless broadband communication for cell phones and mobile devices.

M2M
M2M stands for machine to machine and refers to any communications that occur directly between one device and another.

PBX
PBX is the abbreviation for private branch exchange and is a private telecom network that facilitates both internal and external communications.
POTS
Short for Plain Old Technology Service, POTS refers to the analog twisted copper wires that have serviced our telecommunications since inception.
POTS IN A BOX®
POTS IN A BOX® is an LTE/Cellular/Wi-Fi/PSTN/FirstNet-capable router that can enable many combinations of legacy analog wireline in-band Voice, M2M. Data, DTMF, Analog Data Modem Tones, Fax and Alarm System Signals.
PSTN
Or Public Switched Telephony Network, and is the traditional switched network that has been in use since the 1800s, and uses underground copper wires to transmit signals. As the adoption of VoIP and other digital communications grows, the PSTN is replacing the copper wires of analog communications with newer, digital IP connections.

SIP
The acronym “SIP” stands for Session Initiation Protocol and refers to a TCP/IP-based network protocol that can be used to establish and control communication connections of several subscribers. SIP is used in VoIP telephony to establish the connection for telephone calls.

TELECOM
The abbreviation for telecommunications.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS (see also: telecom)
Telecommunications encompasses all communication that occurs over a distance, whether by cable, telephone, telegraph, or broadcasting (i.e. radio/TV).
U
UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS (UC)
This term describes the combination of several forms of communications into one solution. Text message chat. video conferencing and calling voice communications and web conferencing all fall into this bucket.
UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS AS A SERVICE (UCaaS)
UCaaS is the process of providing unified communications through a cloud delivery process.

VoIP
Also known as voice over internet protocol, is the process of converting voice signals into digital signals, enabling it to be sent over an internet connection instead of the traditional phone Lines.
W
WI-FI
Wireless technology that enables computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, and any other device that connects to the internet through a wireless connection and not a hard-wired connection.
