POTS IN A BOX®, by DataRemote, is the leading POTS line replacement solution for moving off aging copper landlines without replacing your existing equipment.
This all-in-one gateway connects your analog devices (fax, fire and burglar alarms, elevator phones, emergency call boxes, POS, and more) to modern service over high-speed internet and LTE/5G cellular.
With plug-and-play deployment and built-in resiliency options, you can stay connected, reduce downtime risk, and remain ready as carriers retire POTS infrastructure.
Currently, there are over 40 million copper POTS phone lines in the US. These lines support critical business needs like fire/burglar alarm, analog modem data functions, fax and elevator – functions that don’t tend to work well with VoIP.

POTS IN A BOX® is a multi-network POTS replacement router supporting LTE, cellular, Wi-Fi, PSTN, and FirstNet Band 14 connectivity. It enables legacy analog services including voice, fax, fire and security alarms, DTMF signaling, M2M communications, and analog modem data. These functions—traditionally delivered over copper POTS lines—are securely transported over LAN/WAN internet connections, fiber, cable, LTE cellular networks, and FirstNet, ensuring reliable performance for critical communications.
The POTS IN A BOX® models can be used on Verizon and AT&T cellular networks. All PIAB devices are dual SIM-capable, meaning that you can install SIMs from both networks into the PIAB devices for network diversity and failover redundancy.
POTS IN A BOX® 90X1 and 90X2 include built-in battery backup for up to 48 hours of operation. Actual runtime varies based on usage, connected devices, and network activity.
Specialty lines include fax machines, fire and burglar alarm panels, point-of-sale systems, and analog modem data lines. Elevator lines may also be considered specialty lines when used for monitoring or automated check-in functions. If an elevator phone is used solely for standard voice calling, it is typically classified as a voice line.
POTS IN A BOX® installations are typically completed within a few hours, depending on each customer’s use case. MIX Networks delivers a hassle-free deployment experience through a nationwide network of in-field technicians who handle site surveys and on-site installation. Our onboarding team manages provisioning and activation, with U.S.-based support available anytime after go-live.
POTS IN A BOX® supports a wide range of critical communication use cases, including VoIP over WAN or LTE, analog fax, fire and security alarm signaling, auto-dial call boxes (ring-down), and gate or access control communication systems. It also supports legacy analog data for FSK-enabled modems used in point-of-sale terminals, SCADA and telemetry systems, vending machines, ATMs, utility meter reading, M2M applications, and FirstNet Band 14 connectivity for public safety communications.
MIX Networks’ flagship POTS IN A BOX® models are the 90X1 and 90X2. Both devices support up to eight analog lines via RJ-11 FXS ports with built-in surge protection and include three Ethernet ports (two 1GbE LAN and one 2.5GbE WAN/LAN). The 90X1 supports 5G, while the 90X2 supports 4G LTE, allowing customers to choose the best option based on coverage and performance needs.
